Establishment Sn "staatstragende Gesellschaft" erw. fach. (20. Jh.) Entlehnung. Entlehnt aus ne. establishment, einem Abstraktum zu ne. establish "einrichten, begründen". Das Wort bezeichnet im Englischen zunächst die anglikanische Kirche und wird dann übertragen. Ins Deutsche wird naturgemäß nur die übertragene Bedeutung entlehnt, so daß sich der Sinn etwas verschärft.
   Ebenso nndl. establishment, ne. establishment, nfrz. establishment, nnorw. establishment. Zur Sippe des zugrundeliegenden l. stāre "stehen" s. Distanz; etablieren, stabil.
